LIBRARY

The African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica / Jamaica Memory Bank (ACIJ/JMB) library is a specialized multi-media reference library collection with resources mainly on Africa, Caribbean cultural retention and other related areas. The mission of the ACIJ /JMB library is to provide current resources and quality service to support the information needs of researchers, scholars and the general public at large.

THE LIBRARY COLLECTION

The collection consists of print publications and audiovisual materials. Print publications include monographs, serials and newspapers.

Audiovisual resources include analog audio tapes, videotapes, and photographs, digitized and born digital images, digitized and born digital audio and video recordings; and also electronic material such as CD-ROMs and DVDs. These resources also include folk songs, ceremonies, celebrations and oral history traditions of approximately 20 folk groups representative of the fourteen parishes in Jamaica.

Reference services are aimed at assisting the patrons to satisfy their information needs. The library offers a face to face, telephone and an e-mail reference service.

Audiovisual services includes: • Listening to audio recordings from oral history collection. • Viewing of video recordings • Viewing of analogue photographs and digital images • Reproduction of photographs, audio and video recordings.

KOHA DATABASE

The catalogue is the main guide to the resources available in the collection. It lists the materials by author, title and subject and other bibliographic descriptive elements. The library has an automated catalogue which uses the Koha integrated library software. The African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica/ Jamaica Memory Bank and the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica ICH online catalogue are located on the Institute of Jamaica consortium of online libraries catalogue.
