The African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica / Jamaica Memory Bank (ACIJ/JMB) successfully staged its Online Engagement Committee Retreat on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Mona School of Business, University of the West Indies. The day-long retreat brought together members of the committee in a collaborative and creative space to reflect, review, and refine the institution’s digital outreach strategies.

The retreat was marked by open and insightful dialogue around the Committee’s evolving role in enhancing ACIJ/JMB’s online presence. It kicked off with a warm welcome and icebreaker activity, followed by the official introduction of Ms. Nimone Jones, who now joins the team following the departure of Miss Tracey Williams. Over the course of the day, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions including a SWOT analysis, project evaluations, social media strategy reviews, and content planning. The team also made significant progress on the Events Planning and Management Manual, which is expected to be finalized and implemented in the coming quarter; Q2 of 2025.

Special attention was given to priority initiatives such as the Curating Culture seminar series, the upcoming Animation Workshop which will be in collaboration with the National Museum of Jamaica, and the development of an ICH Children’s Club which will be fully virtual before transitioning into a school-based model in the future. Importantly, the Committee also revisited and restructured its internal roles to ensure more effective task execution moving forward. The retreat ended on a high note with a renewed sense of direction, creativity, and purpose.

Action plans were mapped out for the rest of the year, along with exciting content ideas and strategies to deepen public engagement with Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage.

Stay tuned to ACIJ/JMB’s platforms for what’s to come—we’re just getting started.
