“Guzzum Power: Obeah in Jamaica”
“Guzzum Power: Obeah in Jamaica” captures the essence of the 2010 exhibition mounted by the ACIJ/JMB. It brings together history and religion for an informative and stimulating journey into the religious experiences of African descendants in the Jamaican landscape. It demonstrates that although the prolonged anti-superstition campaigns have tainted public perceptions and deepened the esoteric nature of the practice, its cultural, social and political relevance have served to further entrench it in the Jamaican society. Today, the practice of Obeah remains a powerful force to be reckoned with.
